I'm not big into the whole rap game nowadays, but give me a sassy foul-mouthed lady MC any day of the week and i'm a happy camper.
First up we have a great track from Mr. Oizo and Uffie from Oizo's last album Lamb's Anger. The song is centered around a simple yet effective beat that is very similar (though much faster) to the beat from Beyonce's "Single Ladies". Strangely the song is missing Oizo's trademark cutting and sample slicing, but that need can be fulfilled by his remix of the song for his new e.p. Porriture. This song is not for minors...
If you liked this song you should also check out Oizo's cover of "It Takes Two" which can also be found on Lamb's Anger.
Next up is Amanda Blank with "Make It Take It" of her debut album. To be honest I thought the entire album would sound something like her guest spot on Spank Rock's "Bump", but was surprised when I finally checked it out and heard the diversity of the album as a whole. As a side note - her song "DJ" sounds like a track off Kudu's (check them out!) last album...
Kid Sister is on the rise and is probably playing on your local radio stations already so I really don't need to say much about her. If you Miss Salt n' Pepa then she will fit in nicely on your ipod/ghetto blaster.
Lastly i'll leave you with a song off of Peaches' latest album I Feel Cream. In my opinion she single-handedly brought back the dirty female MC persona from the dead. Feel free to argue amongst yourselves...
With the weather cooling down and winter kicking in my musical tastes have been mellowing out a bit. For the past week or so i've been mentally transitioning from disco shoes and body glitter to sweaters and old movies, and I have to say i'm not the least bit sad about that. So sit back, listen to some music, and by all means enjoy my rambling...
So the other day I was "trying" to drive myself to the DMV to get a new license. let me first say that i've only been living in Las Vegas for a handful of months now so it didn't come as a surprise to me that 3o minutes into the drive I found myself completely lost on the wrong side of town. That's about the time this song popped into my head, and I felt that maybe at one point she couldn't find her way to the DMV either. And, somehow, that made everything a little better. So enjoy Diana Ross in all her doe-eyed magnificence...
*I was at the DMV for 4 hours!
Most people flock to the Basement Jaxx for their party starters, but if you want a perfectly mellow track then they have that covered too. I urge anyone reading this blog to look more into the band if you already haven't. I have yet to meet someone who hates them. Oh, and if anyone wants to buy me the second album in the two album release (entitled zephyr) please don't let me stop you ;)
Last but not least is possibly the only song that can bring me close to tears. I really can't say much more than that...
The next post will have a lot more music, and some fun musical math!
